The First Few Hours
Stay off the roof. Wet tile is slick, and a storm can leave cracked tiles that break under your feet.
Inside the house, a few quick steps keep a small leak from turning into a big repair:
- Move furniture, rugs and electronics away from the drip.
- Catch the water in a bucket, with a towel under it to stop the splash.
- If the ceiling sags or bulges, water is pooling above it. Keep everyone out of that room and call us.
- If water is near a light, an outlet or a ceiling fan, turn that circuit off at the breaker.
- Take photos and video of the ceiling, the walls and anything that got wet. Write down when the storm hit.
Take the photos before you clean up. If you file an insurance claim, they show what the storm did.
Why the Leak Isn't Always Above the Drip
Water often gets in at one spot, then runs along the roof deck or a rafter before it drips. So the stain on your ceiling can sit well away from the real opening.
Many Valley homes have tile roofs. The tiles shed most of the rain, but the layer under them, called the underlayment, is what keeps the water out. When a storm cracks or shifts tiles, rain reaches that layer, and an old underlayment lets it through.
After a Valley storm, these are the spots we check first:
- Cracked or slipped tiles from hail or wind
- Flashing around vents, chimneys and skylights that the wind pulled loose
- Punctures or standing water on flat and foam roof sections
- Valleys, where two roof slopes meet and the water runs fastest
That's why we check the whole roof, not just the spot over the stain.
The Water Inside Is Half the Job
A roof leak rarely stops at the roof. Water soaks the insulation and the drywall, and sometimes the floor. Even after the roof is fixed, those materials can stay wet.
The EPA says to dry water-damaged areas within 24 to 48 hours to prevent mold. That clock starts when the water gets in, not when you notice the stain.
Most roofers fix the roof and send you to a separate company for the inside. We do both. We hold a restoration license (AZ ROC #347030) and we're IICRC certified, so the same company dries out and repairs the rooms below.
How We Fix a Storm Leak
Call us at any hour. We answer the phone 24/7.
We come out for a free roof inspection. We check the whole roof and the attic, then show you photos of what we found.
You get one written estimate for the roof and the inside repairs. If you file a claim, we document the damage and can meet your adjuster at the house. Your insurance company decides what's covered.
Then we fix the roof, dry out the wet areas and repair the ceiling and walls. You deal with one company and one estimate the whole way.
